Position Information

Bass High School is a co-educational high school located in the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA. The school is part of the Chipping Norton Principal Network. Bass High School proudly serves approximately 900 students, with 82% coming from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Approximately 2% of students are from an indigenous background. The school has a support unit for 40 students with autism and mild/moderate intellectual disabilities.

The school receives significant funding through the Resource Allocation Model. Areas of focus for the school are student growth and attainment, purposeful post-school pathways, explicit teaching and student engagement. Bass High School has a commitment to EAL/D education and ensuring success for all students. The school also has a history of success in sport.

The school has an active P&C which has strong connections with the community and is committed to improving opportunities for students.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching.

  1. Demonstrated ability to lead special education teams and whole school inclusive practices and support the integration of students with disabilities into mainstream learning environments. 

     

  2. Strong knowledge of current best practice in inclusive curriculum design, enabling the development of tailored pathway structures to support students with disabilities and additional learning needs, complemented by effective relationships with external agencies that promote student wellbeing and enhance educational outcomes.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning in special education, and thorough understanding of legislative requirements, Department of Education policies, and child protection standards relevant to the role.
  4. Demonstrated capacity to develop sustainable systems and structures within a complex educational setting, including organising support programs and using data to inform planning and decision making that strengthen positive learning and behaviour environments.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
