Position Information
Gunnedah High School is a welcoming, comprehensive school within the Connected Communities Strategy. Located 78 kilometres west of Tamworth in the New England region of NSW, it serves students from Gunnedah and surrounding rural communities, including Boggabri, Mullaley and Somerton. With a current enrolment of 421 students, 53% of whom identify as Aboriginal—the school is committed to meeting diverse learning needs through personalised pathways and career-focused opportunities.
The school includes a Special Education Unit comprising five MC classes, one IM class, and a Tutorial Centre, ensuring every student is known, valued and cared for. Gunnedah High places strong emphasis on achievement and participation across academic, cultural and sporting domains, celebrating success both within the school and the wider community. General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Proven capacity to design, implement and evaluate evidence-informed literacy and numeracy interventions that improve student outcomes, with a strong ability to analyse data to monitor progress and measure impact.
Proven understanding of NCCD requirements and the implementation of effective adjustments to support diverse learners and strengthen inclusive classroom practice.
Proven ability to effectively coordinate and deploy SLSOs to maximise student learning, engagement and wellbeing outcomes, including aligning support with targeted intervention programs.
Proven capacity to lead Aboriginal Education initiatives that strengthen student engagement, cultural identity, attendance, retention and post-school pathways, in alignment with the Connected Communities Strategy and its 8 Key Deliverables.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
