Position Information

We are looking for the right person to lead our English faculty. The successful applicant will also oversee the CHS CAPA and Languages staff.

The school has a Support Unit of 7 classes, supporting students with mild and moderate intellectual difficulties, autism and challenging behaviours. The school prides itself on the scope of curriculum delivered to students ensuring they are known, valued and cared for.  

High level areas for improvement and further development have been established in an authentic situational analysis in consultation with Cowra High School students, Student Leadership Council, Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, Aboriginal families, Parents and Citizens, Parent / Student Focus Groups, teaching and non-teaching staff.  

Through the completion of the situational analysis, the school identified the following areas for development:  

• Analysis of internal and external data highlights a need for improvements in teacher classroom practice including explicit and targeted teaching to extend and challenge all learners to meet their academic potential.  

• To improve teacher reflective practice and increase focus on high quality teaching, assessment and feedback to improve student performance  

• To increase personalised and differentiated learning to ensure students are engaged, motivated and connected to learning

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

1.     Approval to teach English 7 to 10, as well as proven experience across Stage 6 English including Standard, Advanced and Extension.

  1. Demonstrated ability to collaboratively lead the creation and communication of a clear English faculty plan, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement that aligns with the school’s strategic directions.
  2. Proven ability to lead the implementation of the new English curriculum, applying evidence-based teaching practices, differentiation, and innovative assessment strategies to enhance student outcomes and engagement.
  3. Capacity to lead a cohesive faculty team and be a dynamic member of the executive leadership team to drive initiatives to address whole school strategic directions.
  4. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for strengthening links across the community to meet the diverse needs of students of varied ability levels, including HPGE.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
