Position Information

Hastings Secondary College was formed in 2015 with two 7-12 campuses - Port Macquarie and Westport. The College has grown dynamically with staff, parents and students working together to promote public education in an area spoilt for choice in terms of educational offerings. We have 175 dedicated teachers consisting of early career, mid–career and experienced teachers, along with support and administrative staff. The student body consists of an enrolment of 1300.

Port Macquarie Campus has recently reached the competition of major infostructure works with significant upgrades to TAS, CAPA, Maths and a joint-use PCYC for PE. We have created a dynamic learning environment that provides a diverse curriculum that allows students to pursue individual pathways with a strong SBAT program. There are a variety of programs and activities open to Aboriginal students including the Clontarf Academy for boys and Sista Connections for girls. There are approximately 140 Aboriginal students at Port Campus. The Supported Learning faculty at Port Macquarie Campus has an enrolment of approximately 50 students. Classes include Multi Categorical, Autism and IM.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:
1. Expertise in the teaching of either Music or Visual Arts (7-12) and the capacity to lead a diverse staff to engage and challenge all students, including HPGE learners.
2. Proven capacity to lead and inspire a faculty culture of high expectations, professional growth, and collaboration, ensuring consistency, accountability, and clear evidence of impact on student learning and engagement.
3. Capacity to work collegially with the executive team to identify, develop and lead initiatives aligned with school priorities and the Strategic Improvement Plan with a focus on improving student attendance on a whole-school basis.
4. Proven ability to develop and implement quality Creative and Performing Arts teaching programs aligned with NESA syllabuses and coordinate assessment and reporting processes.
