Veritas Education is currently working in partnership with a well-respected secondary school in Kirklees to appoint a dedicated and dynamic Head of Year. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher or current pastoral leader looking to take the next step in their career.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading a year group, supporting students' academic progress, well-being, and personal development in line with Department for Education guidance and the school's ethos.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the pastoral care and well-being of a designated year groupMonitor and track student progress, attendance, behaviour, and engagementDevelop and implement intervention strategies to support students at risk of underachievementWork closely with teaching staff, SENCO, safeguarding and senior leadership teamsBuild positive relationships with parents/carers and external agenciesPromote high expectations of behaviour and learning across the year groupSupport safeguarding responsibilities in line with statutory guidanceThe Ideal Candidate Will:
Have previous experience in a pastoral or middle leadership role (e.g. Head of Year, Assistant Head of Year, or similar)Demonstrate a clear commitment to safeguarding and student welfarePossess excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skillsBe able to inspire, motivate and support young people to achieve their full potentialHave a good understanding of behaviour management strategies and school systemsAbout the School
