About Cleveland Education and Training Centre (CETC):

CETC is a Department of Education education unit operating within the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre in Townsville. The Centre's catchment comprises the area geographically north from Rockhampton, west to the border and includes island communities off the Queensland coastline. Young people enrolled at CETC are incarcerated by the court system are aged between ten to eighteen years old.
CETC is a service provider within the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre therefore all staff are required to comply with a range of safety and security protocols. From 2022 CETC has delivered education programs within the Detention Centre for 48 weeks of the year. Staff must be willing and able to work during the school holidays to ensure operational needs are met during the 48 weeks of education delivery.

Your role:
You will be responsible for Inclusion and Student Wellbeing at Cleveland Education and Training Centre. This is an excellent opportunity to lead and play a pivotal role in the strategic direction of the School.

Responsibilities include:

  • working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, leading and coordinating support services catering to the complex educational, social and emotional needs of young people.
  • strengthening engagement in learning through inclusive practices, supporting individual case management, student induction, implementing targeted strategies that promote positive behaviour and enhancing student wellbeing leading to improved student outcomes.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with students and key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
