The role focuses on leading the implementation of the college's pedagogical framework, coordinating peer observation through the Collegial Engagement and Development Framework, and supporting the development of digital pedagogies including QLearn and emerging AI tools to enhance student learning outcomes.
As Head of Department – Teaching and Learning, you will lead the continuous improvement of teaching practice across the college.
Based in Townsville, this role works closely with campus leadership teams and teachers across all nine campuses to strengthen pedagogy, build staff capability, and develop a shared language around effective teaching practices.
- Leading the implementation and ongoing development of the college's whole-school pedagogical framework
- Coordinating the Collegial Engagement and Development Framework, including structured peer observations that support teachers to reflect on and improve their practice
- Facilitating professional learning by leading meetings, unpacking evidence-based strategies and supporting staff to embed these practices in the classroom
- Visiting campuses to support leaders and teachers and ensure alignment of teaching practices across the college
- Developing resources and tools that support the consistent implementation of agreed teaching strategies
- Working collaboratively with the Curriculum and VET Head of Department to embed effective teaching practices within moderation, curriculum planning, and resource development
- Supporting the development of digital pedagogies, including the effective use of QLearn and emerging AI tools to enhance teaching and learning

About You:
The successful applicant will be a strong teaching and learning leader who is passionate about building teacher capability and improving student outcomes.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong teaching expertise and pedagogical leadership, with the ability to guide staff in implementing effective teaching strategies that improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Experience in leading professional learning and building teacher capability, including supporting teachers through observation, feedback and collaborative professional practice.
- The ability to build strong professional relationships and work collaboratively with campus leaders and teachers across multiple campuses.
- Strong analytical and reflective practice, including the ability to use data and evidence to inform teaching practice and school improvement.
- Effective organisational and leadership skills, including the ability to manage human, financial and physical resources to achieve organisational outcomes.
- A commitment to fostering a positive professional culture, grounded in ethical practice, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- An interest in contemporary and digital pedagogies, including the use of platforms such as QLearn and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.
