The Languages faculty is a distinctive strength of the school. Kedron offers Japanese, Chinese, Spanish and French, supported by dedicated classrooms for each language.
In Year 7, students select either an Asian Languages strand or a European Language Strand.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and instructional leadership for the Languages faculty, encompassing Japanese, Spanish, Chinese and French across Years 7-12.
- Develop a shared faculty vision aligned with Kedron State High School's strategic direction and work collaboratively with the SLT and ELT to develop the 2027 Annual Implementation Plan and Languages Faculty Improvement Plan.
- Lead curriculum planning, implementation and review to ensure alignment with Australian Curriculum v9.0, QCAA senior syllabuses and departmental requirements.
- Strengthen assessment and moderation practices so the intended, enacted and assessed curriculum is consistently aligned across all Languages programs.
- Use achievement, engagement, participation and subject retention data to identify priorities, evaluate impact and improve student outcomes.
- Build teacher capability through collaborative inquiry, professional learning, observation, feedback and the sharing of effective practice.
- Embed the Kedron Way of Learning and the school's Signature Practices, including explicit and targeted teaching, checking for understanding, student agency and inclusive classroom practice.
- Maintain high expectations for student achievement, engagement and staff professional practice.
- Manage faculty staffing, budgets, resources, facilities, timetable requirements and operational responsibilities effectively.
- Build productive relationships with students, families, cultural organisations, international partners and the wider community.
- Contribute actively to SLT and whole school improvement priorities while advocating for Languages education and sustainable pathways from Year 7 through to Year 12.
