Who We Are:
Garbutt State School was officially opened in 1932 in the suburb of Garbutt, close to the Townsville Airport and the RAAF base and historically has had close connections to the Australian Defence Force Families who lived in the suburb.
Our school logo consists of a fighter jet and the original school motto was 'We Aim High'. Our sports houses are Mirage, Sabre and Phantom, named after fighter jets.
The school motto was modernised and we now include 'Smart and Strong' along with "We Aim High".
The students who now attend our school, come from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Our school has a strong commitment to reconciliation and the promotion of culture and inclusion within our school community.
