About Chatsworth State School:

Chatsworth State School is a medium-sized country school, servicing Gympie's northern suburbs and surrounds. We maintain a genuine family feel where students are treated as individuals, whilst being large enough to provide a broad and balanced education with many extra-curricular opportunities.

About the Role:

While the successful applicant will undertake the general duties of a Teacher Aide and work collaboratively as part of the broader school team, the primary focus of this position will be providing consistent, individualised support to one student to enable their successful participation in learning, classroom routines and the wider school environment.

The successful applicant will work closely with classroom teachers, school leadership and other relevant staff to implement agreed strategies and adjustments that support the student's engagement, independence, wellbeing and access to learning.

A key priority of the role will be developing a positive and professional working relationship with the student while maintaining high expectations and supporting them to progressively build independence.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide targeted support to an identified student across classroom and school environments.
  • Support the student to engage with learning activities, classroom routines and teacher instruction.
  • Implement reasonable adjustments, individual support strategies and agreed plans under the direction of teaching and leadership staff.
  • Assist with breaking learning tasks into manageable steps and providing appropriate prompts, scaffolds and reinforcement.
  • Support the development of the student's independence, self-regulation, organisation and participation, rather than creating reliance on adult support.
  • Reinforce classroom expectations, routines and positive behaviours consistently.
  • Support the student during transitions between lessons, activities and different areas of the school where required.
  • Recognise early signs of disengagement or escalation and implement agreed proactive and responsive strategies.
  • Encourage positive interactions and participation with peers, supporting inclusion within the classroom and wider school community.
  • Communicate relevant observations regarding the student's engagement, progress and support needs to teachers and appropriate staff.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries when working with students and families.
  • Participate in relevant planning, communication and review processes as directed.
  • Assist classroom teachers with general Teacher Aide duties when appropriate and when the identified student's needs allow.
  • Contribute positively and flexibly to the broader work of the school and Teacher Aide team.
