About the Role:
As the Court Liaison Officer, you will support vulnerable young people involved in the criminal justice system to re engage with education and training.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, where you can apply your skills to assess educational needs, develop education plans, and support reintegration into meaningful learning pathways.
You will represent the Department of Education before the Children's Court providing timely and accurate educational information to the courts.
The role involves close collaboration with the Youth Transition Officers (YTO), government agencies, and community stakeholders to deliver coordinated, culturally responsive support to young people and their families, underpinned by a strong understanding of education and youth justice legislation, policy, and practice.
In this role you will:
- Liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders including Magistrates, Judges, Youth Justice Services, legal representatives, police, Community Justice Groups and community organisations, providing a departmental perspective.
- Build strong relationships with young people and families involved in the Youth Justice System.
- Assess the young person's enrolment status and liaise with them and their family/carers, their legal representative, police prosecutions, and youth justice staff to offer education assistance if required.
- Refer young people, including those with minimal required intervention, and those with high complex educational needs, to avenues for direct support/advocacy.
- Provide information related to a young person's educational history to the Courts.

We are looking for:
- Experience working with at-risk or disengaged students who have a history of contact with the criminal justice system and their families
- Ability to develop and implement support plans
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with families, schools, and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated cultural competency, especially working with First Nations students and diverse backgrounds
- High standards of confidentiality, conduct, and information privacy
The following would also be favourable:
- Familiarity with education, youth justice and child protection systems
- Prior experience in multi-disciplinary teams
- Understanding of inclusive education principles
