Position Information
Smalls Road Public School, located in Ryde, Sydney, acknowledges the Wattamatagal peoples as the traditional custodians of our land. Established in 2020, the school is experiencing steady enrolment growth, with current enrolments at 550 students. The school has a capacity of 740 students. A newly created Deputy Principal position has been established to support this growth and leadership requirements.
Our student population is richly diverse, with approximately 67% of students from language backgrounds other than English. This cultural diversity is celebrated and valued as a core strength of our vibrant school community. The school has three specialist support classes, comprising two Multicategory (MC) classes and one Autism (AU) class, ensuring an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Smalls Road Public School fosters a culture of high expectations for both students and staff. Our teaching and learning programs are data-informed and designed to meet a broad spectrum of learning needs. Literacy and numeracy initiatives are grounded in evidence-based strategies that promote individual student growth and overall school improvement.
The school features flexible learning spaces, where students learn collaboratively within ‘learning hubs’ that integrate up to three classes. Teaching teams work collegially with a shared commitment to differentiated, student-centred programming, delivering high-quality educational experiences.
Current school priorities:
Student Growth and Achievement: Uphold the school’s standards of excellence in attendance, while driving sustained improvement in student outcomes, particularly in reading and numeracy, through explicit, evidence-based, and innovative instructional practices.
Evidence-Informed Pedagogy: Embed explicit teaching methodologies across all curriculum areas, ensuring that instructional approaches are informed by data and research. Enhance the provision for High Performance and Gifted Education (HPGE) to effectively cater to the diverse learning needs of students. Further, prioritise the integration of Aboriginal education throughout all aspects of the curriculum to promote cultural understanding and inclusivity.
The successful applicants for the Deputy Principal role will be expected to commence duties at the start of Term 3, 2026.
