About this job

This is a temporary full-time position until 3 December 2027 (end of Term 4) unless otherwise determined.

The Partnership Initiative

This role supports the Department of Education's Equity and Excellence Strategy through the Partnership Initiative project, which is piloting tailored and differentiated support across 42 regional, rural and remote Queensland schools. The initiative enables participating schools to collaborate with community partners and government agencies to deliver locally responsive, integrated strategies. Participating schools will strengthen relationships with early childhood education and care services, community organisations, government agencies, local businesses and other service providers. Place-based approaches are underpinned by evidence showing improved outcomes for children, students, families and communities when services and supports are integrated across government, industry and local communities.

The initiative also strengthens the involvement of First Nations communities in decision-making to improve learning and life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

The Northern Peninsula Area and School Campuses

Considered the gateway to the Torres Strait, the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) region is a narrow peninsula bordered by the Coral Sea in the east, the Arafura Sea and Gulf of Carpentaria to the west and the Torres Strait to the north. The NPA region is made up of five First Nations communities; Injinoo, Umagico, Bamaga, New Mapoon and Seisa; each with its own history, languages and traditions strongly influenced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage.

Northern Peninsula Area State College (NPASC) is a K-12 college with three campuses. Ama Mary Eseli Injinoo Campus and Bamaga Junior Campus are primary campuses catering for Kindy to Year 6, while Years 7 to 12 secondary education is delivered at Bamaga Senior Campus.

The Opportunity

Working alongside the Head of Campus and College Principal, you will influence a place-based approach within the school and community by collaborating with key partners and across government agencies to deliver locally responsive and integrated strategies to address school and community challenges.

Your commitment to ensuring students attend, learn and thrive will position the school as a champion for its students, families and the broader community. In this leadership role, you will drive change through the implementation of the system's Reading Commitment, ensuring all learners develop the skills required to become literate, lifelong learners.

You will also have the unique opportunity to support the Head of Campus and College Principal by analysing community trends and needs, consulting with key stakeholders, and promoting an inspiring educational vision for the future.

The role

The ideal Deputy Principal will demonstrate leadership in the following areas:

  1. Capacity to use analytical skills to contribute to the educational outcomes of students.
  2. Design and implement inclusive support programs to improve student engagement.
  3. Establishing partnerships with external organisations, community and parents to foster a positive sustainable relationship that would improve student outcomes and opportunities.
  4. Enhance Senior Schooling Pathways.
  5. Working collaboratively with NPASC Primary campuses and regional support to ensure consistency of practice within the college.
