Position Information
Googong High School (name pending) will open to year 7 and 8 students in 2027. Situated in the Queanbeyan Network on Ngambri and Ngunnawal Country, the school serves a rapidly growing, highly engaged and aspirational community, with the potential for the school to expand to cater for approximately 2000 students.
The new Deputy Principal will commence in term 3 to support the Principal in the challenging yet rewarding work of establishing a new school. During this time, the successful applicant will be involved in responsibilities such as establishing effective systems and process to support student wellbeing, inclusion and school operations. They will also be heavily involved in building positive relationships with the broader school community who are eagerly awaiting the commencement of the school.
Googong High School (name pending) is being designed around an exciting and innovative curriculum structure that is founded in Learning Sciences. As a new school with the opportunity to establish a dynamic and contemporary culture, the school is building a learning design that reflects a broad research base in effective and modern teaching practices. The Deputy Principal will have a critical role in leading this innovative culture and developing the capacity of a rapidly expanding executive team to implement teaching and learning programs that meet the needs of students in a changing society.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Exemplary personal and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to lead and develop a new school team with a united vision focused on high-quality teaching and learning, collaborative practice and community engagement.
2. Proven strong and strategic leadership skills, with the capacity to support the Principal in establishing high quality systems and practices that meet the needs of all students both in a new school and rapidly expanding school context.
3. Capacity to drive innovative, high-quality curriculum practices that meet the diverse learning needs of students, including the developing the capacity of others to work within a dynamic and interconnected curriculum.
4. Demonstrated expertise in student behaviour support and wellbeing, with the capacity to lead the development and implementation of proactive, evidence-informed approaches that promote positive behaviour, student engagement, inclusion and a safe, supportive learning environment.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
