Who We Are:
A new special school is being delivered to relieve enrolment pressure at Ipswich West Special School.
The special school, co-located with Leichhardt State School, will increase special schooling capacity and provide enrolment relief in the local school network.
The first stage of the new primary special school is scheduled to open in Term 1 2027.

This role requires a strong instructional leader with deep knowledge of teaching students with disability and complex support needs, and the ability to drive consistent, high-quality pedagogy across the primary years.
A key focus of the role will be supporting successful transitions into Prep through strong partnerships with families, early childhood providers and support services, while establishing responsive and developmentally appropriate practices that set students up for success from the outset.
The successful applicant will:
- Lead the development of aligned systems for curriculum, assessment, behaviour and wellbeing
- Embed evidence-based practices, including structured literacy approaches
- Use coaching, data-informed decision making and disciplined improvement cycles to strengthen teaching practice
- Build staff capability and foster a strong, collaborative culture from the ground up
- Support inclusive practices within a co-located model, creating meaningful opportunities for shared learning and participation with the partner school
- Demonstrate exceptional organisational and operational capability
- Build strong relationships with staff, students, families and support agencies
- Show resilience, adaptability and initiative within a foundation school setting
