Cover Supervisor & PE Support Assistant - Secondary School - Haringey

A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Haringey is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor & PE Support Assistant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a background in sports coaching, physical education, youth work, childcare or education support who are passionate about working with young people.

The successful candidate will supervise classes during teacher absence and provide additional support within the PE department, helping to promote student participation, engagement and achievement in sport and physical activity.

This role would suit aspiring teachers, sports graduates, sports coaches, teaching assistants, youth workers or experienced cover supervisors looking to further their career within education.

Key Responsibilities

Cover Supervisor Duties

  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons across a range of secondary school subjects.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively in line with school policies.
  • Ensure students remain engaged and on task throughout lessons.
  • Maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding lesson outcomes.

    • PE Support Duties

  • Support PE teachers during practical and theoretical lessons.
  • Assist with the organisation and delivery of sports activities.
  • Encourage participation and engagement from all students.
  • Support extracurricular clubs, fixtures and sporting events where required.
  • Promote health, fitness and positive attitudes towards physical activity.

    • Requirements

    Essential

  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • Sports coaching, sports leadership, PE, fitness or physical activity experience.
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Confident managing groups of students.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

    • Desirable

  • Previous experience working within a secondary school.
  • Experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Sports Coach or Youth Worker.
  • Degree in Sports Science, Physical Education or a related subject.
  • Relevant coaching qualifications.
