About the Department of Education:

Student Child and Family Connect is responsible for ensuring Queensland state school students are engaged in learning, achieving and successfully transitioning to further education, training and work. The position will work within the Schools and Student Support Division in Mount Isa, within the NQR Student Child and Family Connect team.

Your Role:

As Court Liaison Officer, you will attend the Mount Isa Children's Court and provide accurate educational history and advice to inform court processes and support young people's engagement or re engagement in education or training.

We are seeking a practitioner who shares our commitment to supporting young people involved in the youth justice system.

This role works directly with young people appearing before the Court to assess their educational needs and support their reintegration into appropriate education and training pathways.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with school and regional staff, youth justice, community organisations and other key stakeholders to coordinate effective, wrap around support. Building strong, respectful relationships with young people and their families is central to the role.

Responsibilities include:

The Court Liaison Officer reports to the Director, Student, Child and Family Connect, to provide the following services:

  • Build strong relationships with young people and their families involved in the youth justice system in a culturally sensitive manner;
  • Provide information related to a young person's education history and status to the courts.
  • Provide an education department perspective when liaising with a range of stakeholders including Magistrates, youth justice services, legal representatives, police, community justice groups and community organisations.
  • Develop appropriate educational planning and pathways in collaboration with DoE regional staff, school leaders, school staff, partnering agencies including Youth Justice and Child Safety and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Adhere strictly to information sharing protocols within legislative and policy requirements.
  • Collect and collate data in relation to the CLO role to support program improvement and supporting against strategic directives.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with young people and their families who have complex backgrounds and needs, in a way that recognises and respects individual cultures, identities and circumstances.
  • Strong capability to develop and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders from a diverse range of professional, cultural and community backgrounds.
  • Proven capacity to operate within a complex service environment, including the appropriate management, sharing and use of sensitive information.
  • Experience and knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, operational processes across the education and youth justice systems.
