Position Information
Ajuga School, located in Glenfield, on Dharawal Country, is a school for specific purposes that caters for 63 students from K-12 who have a complex trauma background and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Currently, there are five primary and four secondary classes in operation. Each class is staffed with a teacher and a School Learning Support Officer.
Ajuga School is a setting that invests in relationships and provides space and time to create, sustain, and repair connections with students and their families. Students are empowered to better understand how thoughts and feelings drive behaviour and are supported to understand and label their emotions, reframe and develop in ways that increase their capacity to make positive choices.
Ajuga School staff work within a Trauma Responsive Education Model. The school and its community have high expectations and value the provision of a variety of learning experiences, including: Music, Environmental Education, Sport, Social and Emotional Learning, and an inclusive curriculum across all Key Learning Areas.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, emotional disturbance and/or complex learning and behavioural needs within a support class or SSP.
2, Demonstrated experience and understanding of supporting students with high complexity, including those who have experienced trauma, through the implementation of trauma-responsive and restorative practices that promote resilience, emotional regulation, and positive behavioural outcomes to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
3. Proven ability to lead and develop evidence-based, evaluative and differentiated teaching and learning practices, including the design, implementation and monitoring of individualised programs that address diverse learning needs and enhance engagement and wellbeing to maximise learning outcomes for all students.
4. Evidence of a highly visible, approachable, and collaborative leadership with a capacity to build and maintain positive, inclusive, trusting relationships and partnerships with students, families, staff, external agencies, and the wider community, including managing the performance of individuals and teams across a complex, culturally diverse community.
5. Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a dynamic member of the executive leadership team and to lead whole-school initiatives aligned with the school’s strategic directions, including fostering wellbeing practices to ensure an inclusive, equitable, and supportive learning environment.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
