Position Information

Smalls Road Public School is located in Ryde, Sydney and acknowledges the Wattamatagal peoples as traditional custodians of our land. Smalls Road Public School opened in 2020. Our enrolment numbers are increasing with the greatest growth coming from kindergarten enrolments each year. Current 2024 student enrolment is 450 students. The anticipated 2025 student enrolment is 515.  Smalls Road Public School includes 3 support classes and has approximately 67% of students from language backgrounds other than English.

Smalls Road Public School maintains a culture of high expectations for students and staff, with data-informed teaching and learning programs developed to cater for a diverse range of learning needs. Literacy and numeracy initiatives are evidence-driven to support individual student growth and whole school improvement.

Smalls Road Public School has flexible teaching spaces where all individual classes learn within collaborative ‘learning hubs’ that can consist of up to 4 classes. 

Teaching teams adopt a collegial approach to programming, dedicated to providing differentiated student-centred teaching and learning opportunities for all students. Current priorities of the school include literacy and numeracy excellence, through explicit and innovative teaching), student wellbeing and building a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture. 

The successful applicants will be expected to enter on duty at the commencement of Term 1

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
  1. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with demonstrated outstanding teaching practice with an emphasis on differentiated literacy and numeracy programs, utilising data to drive improvement in student outcomes and ensure consistency of learning within the stage and across K-6.
  2. Outstanding collaboration and organisational skills with the ability to lead mentor and inspire a team of both experienced and beginning teachers and balance the complexities of a dual role of teaching and executive leadership.
  3. Demonstrated expert curriculum knowledge to lead, evaluate and sustain implementation of new syllabus documents, using explicit teaching practices.
  4. Proven ability to manage and lead wellbeing practices and processes, resulting in enhanced student, staff and community engagement and a positive, inclusive school culture.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
