About this job
Position Information
Maroubra Junction Public School is situated on Bidjigal land in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, and has 491 students enrolled K-6. One percent of our students identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and approximately 55% of our students have English as an additional language or dialect. We enjoy modern facilities, including a lift and ramp for ease of accessibility, and spacious grounds that are well landscaped and maintained. We offer Greek and Chinese language classes as part of the Department's Community Languages Program, and Dharawal classes in Kindergarten in support of our local Aboriginal community's drive to revitalise the language. We have a newly introduced opportunity class, with high potential and gifted education across all classes a core component of our School Excellence Plan. Alongside that, we provide opportunities for our staff to continuously build their capabilities to ensure every student experiences high quality teaching, and we have a whole-school approach to the development of literacy and numeracy skills to ensure the most effective evidence-based teaching methods optimise learning outcomes for all students. We offer a range of extracurricular activities to add to the development of students' interests and talents. We build partnerships to develop a sense of self and belonging for all members of our school community.
At our school, learning is visible and teachers and students adopt a positive growth mindset when faced with challenges in their learning and/or adversities in life. Our core values of respect, learning, and safety underpin our expectations that utilise the ethos of Positive Behaviours for Learning programs. High expectations lend themselves to improvement in literacy and numeracy outcomes, building the capacity of all stakeholders, and engaging as a school community.
