Location: Batley & Dewsbury (Kirklees)
Contract: Full‑time
We are recruiting dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to work 1:1 with pupils in primary schools across Batley and Dewsbury. These roles suit candidates who are patient, confident, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs to thrive in a mainstream setting.
You will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to provide tailored support, helping pupils engage in learning, manage emotions, and build independence.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver targeted 1:1 support to help pupils access lessons, stay focused, and participate in classroom activitiesSupport emotional regulation using calm strategies, modelling positive behaviour, and helping pupils manage frustration or anxietyAdapt learning tasks to meet individual needs, ensuring pupils can work at a pace and level that suits themImplement personalised support plans created by teachers, SENCOs, and external professionalsUse communication tools such as visual timetables, now/next boards, and simple prompts to support understanding and routineProvide behaviour support using de‑escalation techniques, positive reinforcement, and consistent boundariesAssist with social development by encouraging turn‑taking, peer interaction, and confidence‑building activitiesRecord daily observations on progress, behaviour, triggers, and achievements to support ongoing assessmentWork collaboratively with staff including teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to ensure consistent supportMaintain a safe, nurturing environment where pupils feel secure, understood, and ready to learn
