Location: Batley & Dewsbury (Kirklees)

Contract: Full‑time

We are recruiting dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to work 1:1 with pupils in primary schools across Batley and Dewsbury. These roles suit candidates who are patient, confident, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs to thrive in a mainstream setting.

You will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to provide tailored support, helping pupils engage in learning, manage emotions, and build independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted 1:1 support to help pupils access lessons, stay focused, and participate in classroom activities
  • Support emotional regulation using calm strategies, modelling positive behaviour, and helping pupils manage frustration or anxiety
  • Adapt learning tasks to meet individual needs, ensuring pupils can work at a pace and level that suits them
  • Implement personalised support plans created by teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Use communication tools such as visual timetables, now/next boards, and simple prompts to support understanding and routine
  • Provide behaviour support using de‑escalation techniques, positive reinforcement, and consistent boundaries
  • Assist with social development by encouraging turn‑taking, peer interaction, and confidence‑building activities
  • Record daily observations on progress, behaviour, triggers, and achievements to support ongoing assessment
  • Work collaboratively with staff including teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to ensure consistent support
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing environment where pupils feel secure, understood, and ready to learn
