About the Role:

As the Cairns State High School's Business Manager, you will work closely with the Principal and senior leadership team to lead and manage the school's business operations.

You will provide high-level strategic advice and oversee the delivery of corporate services to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the school.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing human resource functions including workforce planning, recruitment processes, and staff establishment in line with departmental policies
  • Overseeing the management of physical resources, including facilities, assets, procurement, and infrastructure projects
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and departmental procedures across all business operations
  • Leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of the school's financial management practices, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Providing strategic advice to the Principal on financial, operational, and risk management matters
  • Leading and developing administrative and support staff to build capability and ensure high performance
  • Managing contracts, service agreements, and relationships with external providers and stakeholders
  • Supporting governance processes, audits, and reporting requirements
  • Driving continuous improvement in business systems, processes, and service delivery

About You:

To be successful in this role:

  • Proven experience in financial and resource management, ideally within an educational or government setting
  • Strong leadership capability with the ability to manage teams, build capacity, and foster a positive workplace culture
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide strategic advice and make sound decisions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and fast-paced environment
