Tarcutta Public School, with a current enrolment of 13 students, is a rural school in the Gundagai Network. We work collaboratively with other small schools in the Wagga Wagga Community of Small Schools learning community, including: Kapooka PS, Ladysmith PS and Uranquinty PS, to achieve joint priorities in our School Improvement Plans related to the professional learning of staff in improving student outcomes in literacy and numeracy. Our students are supported through targeted intervention programs, with teaching and learning programs that are developed through best-practice reflecting the principles from What Works Best, Quality Teaching and the School Excellence Framework. Student growth is monitored in both Literacy and Numeracy using syllabus and PLAN2 (Planning for Literacy and Numeracy), to support the development of future teaching and individualised programs.

The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction position is a leadership role dedicated to ensuring that literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills are embedded in curriculum and assessment; high quality teaching practices are enhanced; and the capabilities of middle leaders are strengthened in literacy and numeracy instruction. It shares the broader educational imperatives of the Assistant Principal position but with an explicit focus on the leadership of effective, evidence-based literacy and numeracy teaching and assessment practices for improved student learning outcomes across the curriculum.

The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction provides high support and guidance to enhance teacher growth and development in literacy and numeracy and strengthens schoolwide instructional capabilities across the curriculum for middle and senior leaders.
