Kearsley Public School is a small school located within the Cessnock community. There is a strong sense of belonging and connection, with an active and supportive parent community and P&C who work collaboratively with staff and students to achieve school goals. The school has a current enrolment of 107 students, including 16 students who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Kearsley Public School is a proud member of the Cessnock Community of Great Public Schools and Korreil Wonnai AECG.

There is a strong focus on the wellbeing of all members of the school community, supported by PBL. A learning culture of striving for personal best, high expectations and building a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy supports the individual learning growth of all students. Students are offered a large range of leadership and extracurricular opportunities in the arts, sport and STEM, to further enhance learning and engagement.

The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction position is a leadership role dedicated to ensuring that literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills are embedded in curriculum and assessment; high quality teaching practices are enhanced; and the capabilities of middle leaders are strengthened in literacy and numeracy instruction. It shares the broader educational imperatives of the Assistant Principal position but with an explicit focus on the leadership of effective, evidence-based literacy and numeracy teaching and assessment practices for improved student learning outcomes across the curriculum.

The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction provides high support and guidance to enhance teacher growth and development in literacy and numeracy and strengthens schoolwide instructional capabilities across the curriculum for middle and senior leaders.
