JCU Townsville houses teaching and research facilities, the main JCU library, cafés, bars, fitness and sporting facilities and a wealth of student clubs and societies. The Bebegu Yumba campus hosts the JCU Science Place, an award-winning space for students to develop their professional skills and learn from leading lecturers and researchers in technology-enabled active learning spaces and cutting edge research labs.
Townsville is large enough to escape the hustle and bustle of big city life, but large enough to boast a range of entertainment, environmental and social amenities. Townsville is Australia’s largest tropical city with a population of around 190,000. It’s a thriving coastal city and port, and a stepping-off point for visiting the Great Barrier Reef. The resort regions of the Whitsunday Islands and Mission Beach are within easy reach, as are historic outback towns such as Charters Towers.
JCU Townsville has five accommodation options, including on-campus and off-campus. Students can choose from the George Roberts Hall, Rotary International House, the new Burralga Yumba accommodation building, John Flynn College and Saints Catholic College. Students can also reach out to the JCU Accommodation team for support in coordinating off-campus housing such as share houses or homestays.
