Hunter River
Community School is a specialised K-12 School for Specific Purposes
(SSP) in the Maitland area, catering for the complex needs of 67 students
with moderate to severe intellectual disability. All students at Hunter River
Community School are supported by a highly skilled and qualified staff that
have deep knowledge of curriculum differentiation, complex health care
needs, trauma informed practise and mental health conditions and/or behavioural
support needs. All school programs are underpinned by collaboratively developed
Personalised Learning and Support Plans. The school has a strong focus on
augmentative communication, technology and Positive Behaviour for Learning
(PBL). Hunter River Community School shares expertise and builds the capability
of staff in school across the Hunter network through regular networking
opportunities.
