Gillieston Public School is a growing school located in the city of Maitland in the Hunter Valley. The school has a student population of 205, including 28 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The school is expected to continue to grow over the coming years due to its location in a rapidly developing housing belt. At present the school has 9 classrooms which are structured on a Stage basis in 2020.
At Gillieston Public School there is a strong focus on developing each students’ capacity in literacy and numeracy. This approach is supported by the utilisation of an Instructional Leader across the school and collaborative approaches utilised by staff to assess, analyse and develop effective teaching and learning programs. Our staff include a mixture of experienced and early career teachers who share their skills and knowledge across the entire school. There is a focus on staff understanding the relationship between classroom practice and the achievement of aspirational whole school targets.
The local community have an active interest in the school
and are keen to see all students achieve. Programs across the school include
L3, PBL, Junior AECG and choir/recorder groups. There is a desire to increase
the capacity of our students in the areas of technology including robotics and
STEM.
