Binalong Public School is situated on Ngunnawal country an hour north-west of Canberra. The school's motto "Towards a Higher Place", is the meaning of the word Binalong in the Ngunnawal language. The school provides education for students predominantly from the Binalong town and surrounds, which historically has been an agricultural community. There is a strong community focus and connection for our school and students. In recent years there has been a growth in student enrollments (currently 38 students K-6) with this projected to continue into the future with young families moving to the area. Students at Binalong Public School are provided with a rich and diverse educational experiences tailored to individual learning needs. An active and engaging Professional Learning Community exists with Bowning and Wee Jasper Public Schools. There is a collaborative focus on high impact professional learning, evidence-informed best practice literacy and numeracy practices, and supportive learning opportunities for students across the schools.
The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction position is a leadership role dedicated to ensuring that literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills are embedded in curriculum and assessment; high quality teaching practices are enhanced; and the capabilities of middle leaders are strengthened in literacy and numeracy instruction. It shares the broader educational imperatives of the Assistant Principal position but with an explicit focus on the leadership of effective, evidence-based literacy and numeracy teaching and assessment practices for improved student learning outcomes across the curriculum.
The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction provides high support and guidance to enhance teacher growth and development in literacy and numeracy and strengthens schoolwide instructional capabilities across the curriculum for middle and senior leaders.
