Testimonials:

“This is an issue that will probably touch all families at some point in time so it is important that all students, both male and female, are educated on the causes of cervical cancer and how it can be easily prevented”. – Robern Hinchcliffe, Dean of Students, St John’s Anglican College

“This presentation complemented the general sexual health information students had received during the year and the specific information about cervical cancer and the Gardasil vaccination, specifically, how it works and why boys are now receiving it. The students were very engaged throughout the presentation, some of the statistics really made them think and they loved the quiz (and prizes) at the end!” – Catherine Raff, School Health Nurse, Holland Park High School

What is CCAPS about?
ACCF provides a free presentation to educate high school-aged students about cervical cancer and the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Driven by Hyundai Help for Kids, the program aims to educate students about the prevention of cervical cancer, the Gardasil vaccine and ACCF’s work in developing countries.

Why should you book a presentation for your school?
Being informed could save a life. Most students who have had the Gardasil vaccine do not realise that it only protects them from 70-80% of the nasty types of HPV that cause cervical cancer and unfortunately 57% of young women in Australia aren’t getting recommended 2 yearly Pap tests. We know that the first step in eliminating cervical cancer is educating youth on HPV and cervical cancer prevention. CCAPS aims to correct misconceptions about the Gardasil vaccine as well as ensure students are informed to make positive choices about their health, now and into the future.

Is the presentation suitable for all students?
ACCF can tailor the information to suit the maturity, understanding and relevance to students. We generally focus on sexual health, pap tests and HPV for the older students (Years 10, 11 & 12) whereas when presenting to younger students the focus is on understanding HPV and how the vaccine works (Years 7, 8 & 9). The presentation is suitable for boys as they can be potential carriers of HPV and can be affected by other HPV related cancer, in addition to also now receiving the vaccination.
