Unit of Work - Sky Novel Study - English Year 7
Resource Description
Created by Voiceless, the animal protection institute, this Animal Protection Education (APE) has been developed for a Stage 4, Year 7 English class and uses Ondine Sherman’s coming of age novel; Sky, as the primary resource, drawing on a range of supporting fiction and non-fiction texts.
Sky is an accessible text for junior students which explores a diverse range of thematic concerns such as; identity, animal protection and tragedy. Through inquiry, students are prompted to ask critical questions regarding societal views on the treatment of animals.
The Sky unit of work includes:
- An 8-week unit of work with 5 Focus Areas, complete with teacher instructions and a wide array of activities;
- Engaging student worksheets and handouts;
- Opportunities for extension;
- Interview with the author;
- Student Glossary and Quizlet;
- Formative and summative assessment tasks.
