The Central Dogma
Resource Description
The central dogma generally describes the flow of information through a two-step process of transcription and translation, which follows a flow of DNA → RNA → protein. The DNA, or the deoxyribonucleic acid, is a nucleic acid responsible for the transfer of genetic material from the parent organism to its offspring. It has a double helix structure, made up of nucleotides, with each nucleotide consisting of a 5-carbon deoxyribose sugar, a phosphate, and a nitrogenous base.
