The printable task cards are perfect for math vocabulary with units of weight, or for showing students how to compare with more than, less than or equal to.

What to do?
Here are some handy tips for using the more than, less than, equal to task cards with grams and kilograms:
Vocabulary knowledge
Role model the vocabulary needed to succeed in comparing whole numbers and decimal values with grams and kilograms, so students become familiar with the language they need.
You can try:
•Making a word wall
•Talking about more than or less than
•Observing when two values are the same (equal to)
•Highlighting mathematical terms which have the same or similar meanings
(more than / greater than, equals / the same as / equivalent to)
Making number sentences - Use the task cards to make number sentences then practice reading these aloud to explain the maths e.g. ‘My number sentence says the lettuce weighs less than the cheese.’
Finding a match - Challenge students to see if they can find a match where two cards have the same weight in grams or kilograms
Three step number sentence - See if students can link three cards together to make an extended number sentence.
Supermarket visit - Visit a supermarket to check the weights of packaging and practice using scales to weigh fruit or vegetables
