There are different types of diversity: genetic diversity, species diversity and ecological diversity. Genetic diversity refers to the totality of genetic characteristics in the genetic makeup of an organism. Diversity in the genetic makeup is essential for adaptation and survival of organisms. Species diversity refers to the variety of species in an area, while ecological diversity refers to the variation of ecosystems in a region including all species and the relationships that interplay between them.
