Resource Description

This transcript accompanies the 'Animal Protection Around the World - who ranks best and worst?' video, a 6-minute film that introduces students to The Voiceless Animal Cruelty Index (VACI), a website that ranks 50 of the world’s largest livestock producing countries based on the nature, extent and severity of farmed animal cruelty, whilst also considering the quality of animal protection laws within each jurisdiction.

This 6-minute video explores how the VACI evaluates three countries with varying rankings: Australia – the worst performer alongside Belarus of all 50 countries, France – a moderate performer, and India – the top performer overall.

The transcript and video are part of a suite of Comparing Cruelty resources and lesson plans that can be found through the Voiceless Animal Protection Education website.

Created by Voiceless, the animal protection institute, this video, and accompanying transcript contain no graphic footage or content and are suitable for use in high school classrooms for all ages and countries.
