Who is it for?

The career interests inventory is ideal for 9th to 12thgrade special education students in high school, and young adult programs where they are beginning to plan their future. The career interests inventories help spark conversations and support students in thinking about what they like and don't like. You can use the inventories before students go on a work experience or volunteer placement.

  • developing reading skills
  • a preference for short sentences and easy reading text
  • an ability to make a choice between two options
  • an interest in beginning to learn about work and working after they finish school
  • no or very limited experience in a real workplace
  • no training or qualifications, who are looking towards entry level jobs

 

When to teach this activity

You can teach the career interests inventory activity as part of a work skills unit, or as a lead in to a unit on resumes and job searching. You may prefer to use one or two surveys each week, or complete them all in several sessions as part of your career planning unit.
