Working towards an inclusive and collegial workplace
It is incumbent on all leaders to create an environment that values each member and encourages the sharing of knowledge and experience. While efforts around student wellbeing have been significant and targeted, meaningful and empirically-founded efforts to improve teacher wellbeing have, arguably, been left behind. Instead, teachers have by-and-large been left with interventions or programs that ‘Band-Aid’ problems around increased teacher burnout and attrition without addressing the core issues that contribute to an erosion of teacher effectiveness and self-efficacy over time. While there are a number of issues that affect a teachers’ passion for and ability to engage fully in the teaching of their students, one area that has been found to have significant influence is that of inclusiveness.
