‘This is not fearmongering’: Vic private schools reject claims of spin campaign
The peak body for Victoria’s independent schools has mounted a misleading "spin campaign" in the wake of the Andrews Government’s decision to strip high-fee private schools of a tax exemption, a senior education lecturer has argued. But Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) has rejected the claim they are 'fearmongering'.
A recent ISV media release describes the stripping of many independent schools' payroll tax exemption as a 'learning tax'. However Deakin University’s Dr Emma Rowe says this is 'obviously very misleading'. "Frankly, it was spin. I would describe it as a spin campaign," she says.
