The flipped classroom - as many questions as answers

Is it worth flipping the classroom? We've all attended professional development courses where an expert has shown us slides that show students only retain approximately 10 per cent of what they hear in a lecture and are better served taking part in interactive learning experiences.

Ironically we're usually being told this is some form of lecture. But is the lecture something to be avoided at all costs ...
