Secondary school-age refugee students need mental health support

A new study by Dr Melanie Baak from the University of South Australia (UniSA) and several other academics has highlighted the hidden mental health struggles of refugee students in Australian secondary schools.

Factors such as stigma, cultural and language barriers, teachers’ fear of labelling students, and difficulty identifying warning signs make it harder for teachers to identify refugee students struggling with mental health issues.
