Report on ACT reading standards paints grim picture, union defends teachers

A report that outlines the dire state of reading standards in ACT schools has been slammed by the state’s teachers’ union, who claim students’ socioeconomic background is more to blame for underachievement than ineffective instruction.

Jessica Del Rio says the Equity Economics report has been wrongly interpreted as pitting public and private schools against each other.
