Minister of Education Hekia Parata had a love of education instilled in her from a young age. Both her parents worked in education – her mother in early childhood and her father in secondary education – and growing up in a tribal community that prioritised reading, thinking and discussion gave Parata a solid grounding. For EducationHQ’s annual Report Card, the Minister spoke to us about her departments’ greatest achievements for 2014 and the concerns and priorities of educators for the coming year.
