Quality reading instruction safeguards against ‘school to prison’ pipeline
Evidence shows that children who exit Grade 3 with poor reading skills are at greater risk of developing behavioural issues and falling into the ‘school to prison’ pipeline than their literate peers, an expert has warned.
“When you’re illiterate then you are effectively imprisoned outside the social and economic mainstream," professor Pamela Snow said.
