Policy expert endorses ITE shape-up as ‘positive first step’
The tough new standards flagged for initial teacher education providers have been called an “absurd overreach” and off the mark by some key stakeholders. But one policy expert argues such “predictable but negative reactions” are disappointing and go against teachers’ needs.
“The research is really strong (in showing) that the most impactful part of teacher training, and the most formative part of teacher training, is the practicum experience – but it’s also the area that’s been most inconsistently dealt with by policymakers and by providers,” Fahey says.
