The year in education will be remembered for the manner in which school funding legislation passed through the Australian Parliament. Members of the then Federal Government, the Greens and the Independents saw fit to vote on the basis of the principles which were cited as underpinning the Bill rather than on the actual wording of the complex Bill that was before them. Questions about how faithfully the Bill reflected the Gonski principles and the likely impact on funding for students across all six years of the new funding model's implementation went unasked. APC expressed serious concern that parliamentary deadlines were considered more important than the best interests of young Australians.
