Having spent 15 years as principal of Sydney’s Merrylands High School and recently left her role as president of the NSW Secondary Principals Council, Lila Mularczyk, above right, has long been a lion of public education. As a classroom teacher, head teacher, head of curriculum area, deputy principal, principal, leader of regional and state professional associations, tertiary lecturer and board member for a number of educational groups, she has enjoyed a marvellous career in education across 35 years. But there is much still to be done. Now as Director, Secondary Education at the NSW Department of Education, the fearless daughter from a migrant family is relishing her new responsibility.
