An inquiry into how literacy and numeracy are taught in ACT public schools has heard a lack of uniformity in instructional approaches across the system is hindering student outcomes and worsening equity gaps in learning.
“Some schools focus on explicit instruction informed by cognitive load theory, but there are other schools that favour inquiry-based learning, and it’s really at the discretion of the principal,” Jessica Del Rio says.
