Last week, the Ministry of Education announced the results of a new analysis tool that forecast teacher supply and demand into the future. A number of initiatives were also announced, aimed at getting more people to consider teaching careers or join New Zealand’s education workforce from overseas. Following on from these announcements, we spoke to two Auckland principals to get their thoughts on what’s being called a crisis in the sector.
"I don’t think pay is everything, but when young people just say ‘I’m not going to even consider it because of the pay’, we’re not getting any cut-through with the young people," Glendowi principal Richard Dykes says.
