The Commonwealth and WA Governments are partnering to deliver the Scaling Up Success in Remote Schools Program at schools in the Goldfields and Midwest regions.
The program focuses on supporting teachers through effective collaboration, implementing evidence-based teaching practices, lifting school attendance, and working in partnership with parents and the community.
Australian Minister for Education Jason Clare said the evidence is clear that Indigenous children living in regional and remote areas are more likely to fall behind at school.
“This program will help turn this around for communities in remote Western Australia,” he said.
“This wrap-around program will help Indigenous students, in the classroom and in their communities.”
The Albanese Government has committed $10 million over four years to implement this Closing the Gap initiative in schools with a high proportion of Indigenous students.
A project team will provide coaching and advice for school leaders and teachers, facilitate community co-design and co-delivery of the program and provide advice on learning and teaching materials.
WA Minister for Education and Aboriginal Affairs, Dr Tony Buti, said in his dual role he’s naturally excited about the creation of the new program.
“It is critically important Indigenous students in remote communities have the support they need to attend and stay engaged at school,” he said.
