About Ravenshoe State School:

As a school, which caters from students from Prep to Year 12, we have the privilege of sharing in the growth of each child as he or she moves from the early childhood classroooms through to the time of graduating from high school.  We aim to nurture their talents in a caring and supportive environment in which they can flourish and grow into thoughtful and confident young people of character who contribute positively to our school community.

About the role:

As the Youth Worker you will liaise between students, school personnel, and the home parents/guardians of any students who encounter educational, social, emotional or behaviour problems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Being a part of the professional team based working within the school and being apart of the wider Regional Wellbeing Team linking with community, liaising with students, parents, teachers, Specialist Services team members
  • Together with other school team members, monitor attendance policy as a means increasing awareness of students experiencing problems and allow for interventions before problems are critical
  • Identify and provide appropriate assistance to students experiencing difficulties at school and/or at home which impact on their wellbeing and mental health, and put them at risk of disengaging from school
  • Support students individually or in planned groups to build skills to establish networks for support.
  • Maintain spreadsheets, data bases and accurate record keeping
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive school image in the community.
  • Link with leadership team to assist to identify students who may be at risk (at home or in school environment)
  • Home visits with students and their families to support a more positive educational and wellbeing experience.
  • Developing and implementing programs dealing with social skills/assertiveness and self esteem
  • understanding strategies and procedures to counter avoidance of school situation.
  • Linking regularly with peer supervision, and individual clinical supervision
