Step Into Your Next Chapter:

As the Youth Transition Officer you will support vulnerable young people who are involved with the criminal justice system to re-engage with education and training.

In this rewarding position, you'll work within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team to deliver personalised support plans, and help students reconnect with learning and build brighter futures.

The officer will work closely with the Court Liaison Officers (CLO), other government agencies, and stakeholders to develop tailored advice and support for young people and their families.

In this role you will:

  • Assist Court Liaison Officers in supporting young people in the youth justice system to engage, or reengage, with education and training.
  • Provide support to young people and their families to ensure they are well informed of their available options relating to viable education and training pathways.
  • Work with and support the needs of vulnerable young people from diverse and complex backgrounds, including First Nations young persons, young persons with disability and young persons in care.
  • Support schools to interpret and enact departmental policies, practices and procedures relating to vulnerable young people to ensure they remain engaged in education.
  • Provide support to schools that will assist in the development and implementation of successful retention and transition strategies and programs that will improve the education outcomes for vulnerable students.

We are looking for:

  • Experience working with at-risk or disengaged students who have a history of contact with the criminal justice system and their families
  • Ability to develop and implement support plans
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with families, schools, and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, especially working with First Nations students and diverse backgrounds
  • High standards of confidentiality, conduct, and information privacy

The following would also be favourable:

  • Familiarity with education, youth justice and child protection systems
  • Prior experience in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Understanding of inclusive education principles
